Arden's Top Surgery

Arden's Top Surgery

From Arden Edwardsen

I had top surgery back in July and I'm healing well, but the insurance has processed most of the charges by now and it turns out that it's going to cost me more than twice the initial estimate of $3,000.

I was finally able to get my top surgery (also known as a bilateral mastectomy or chest masculinization surgery for those who may not know) in July after the initial surgery date got postponed due to COVID-19. The estimate I was given before surgery was that my out of pocket cost would be around $3,000. It would have been rough for me to pay it back, but manageable and more than worth it for the effect it would have on my physical and mental health. Unfortunately after all was said and done, the charges have actually amounted to over $6,000 and after having spoken to my insurance company and the hospital it seems there is nothing that can be done to reduce the cost. I was able to set up a payment plan but my budget is already fairly tight as is and I know I'm going to struggle to maintain payments in addition to my other bills/rent/groceries. I know now is a hard time for most people financially and emotionally, but if you are able to help it would be so much appreciated!
