Macie Update:
Cancer. One word that packs a power punch of emotions. Such a powerful word. That is all it took, and my emotions pour through, tears slide down my face in quick procession as I try to hold myself together. I look at Macie’s face, the same face I have stared at over the past 15 years. It’s weird too, because out of all our dogs, her face has changed the most over the years but at the same time she looks exactly the same. Her eyes are gone but her spark of life is there, that is unchanged and untouched by time. This girl, my girl, has been with me through thick and thin and all the punches life has dealt me over all these years. She is my teacher, my friend, my dog, and she taught me what it looks like to have unwavering loyalty. She taught me the difference between owning a dog and sharing your life with a dog. Owning a dog is great but when you share a life with a dog there is a part of you they change, your impact on each other is palpable, your trust for each other unbreakable. The love this bond creates is unique, the love I have for her is so hard to put into simple words unlike the one word that brought these tears in the first place. Cancer. So now we fight, we fight her Cancer like we fight Dee Dee’s kidney disease and Jay Jays Cushing’s disease. We will show them the same type of loyalty they have always shown us, unwavering and full of love. If you want to help us join the fight please visit our website and check out our fundraisers @ www.mycrittercrew.com we have several ways to help including a t-shirt fundraiser, amazon Wishlist, go fund me and more. If you can’t donate but want to help please like, comment, and share to help us spread the word. Thanks to each and every one of you for all your kind words, love, prayers, and donations. You have truly given me hope on some of my darkest days, your kindness is powerful, and for that I can never thank you enough.

Macie has fully healed from her mass removal and is doing well. Only time will tell what her cancer will do. We are hoping it is slow to progress to get as much time with her as possible.

(This update was posted a little late, I had updated our website, Instagram and Facebook but apparently missed my fundraiser pages. Sorry for any confusion.)

More Info

Critter Crew - We are a family of rescues, we have 7 dogs, 3 cats, 3 sugar gliders and 2 crazy people. We are constantly shown what a blessing an animal can be and are grateful for every day we get to share with them. They remind us with their play, love and companionship that the battle is worth it!!!

About a year and a half ago we had a run of bad luck, all three of our senior dogs went through major health issues within a few short months of each other. We had everything from surgeries (eye removal, mass removals, and more) to emergency vet visits, and worst of all three major degenerative disease diagnosis. Even though we had money saved up for vet expenses, nothing could have possibly prepared us for this. We drained our savings, put thousands on credit cards, took out personal loans, all to keep them alive and thriving.

We are currently battling Cushing’s Disease, as well as Kidney Disease, and though the vet says they can still live many more years it is not cheap, but they are family, so we continue to pay between $400-500 a month for life saving medicine and prescription diets alone. We are struggling paycheck to paycheck and our biggest fear is not having enough money if something happens to them today, tomorrow, or a week from now. Please donate today and help us keep our family happy, thriving and alive.

Meet Dee Dee - She is our beautiful Italian Greyhound who was diagnosed with the heartbreaking and infamous Kidney disease (she is currently on two medications, subcutaneous fluids twice a week for life, and a special diet). She had a dental procedure to stop an infection in her mouth from doing further damage to her kidneys. Most recently she had a reaction to medication that resulted in Pancreatitis which we have been battling on and off for months (this thankfully seems to have passed). Though Dee Dee is mostly blind and hard of hearing she is one beautiful soul, she is incredibly sweet and her favorite thing to do is follow me around all day and cuddle up anytime I sit down long enough to do so. She has a lust for life that shows, and seems to thoroughly enjoy being doted on.

Meet Macie - Our Female Cairn Terrier had to have her left eye removed due to a rare genetic disorder, and has lost sight completely in her right eye. She also just had a surgery to remove some scary lumps that were growing, she had five removed and all of them have healed up beautifully. Macie's spirit and attitude towards life is nothing short of amazing, she is a total inspiration and I have never seen an obstacle she couldn't overcome.

Meet Jay Jay - Our Cairn Terrier had a mass on the side of his face which had to be removed surgically. Then a few months after surgery his blood work came back with yet another crushing blow, he has Cushing's disease which is a degenerative disease that we can only slow down and it's expensive to treat. Jay Jay is our grumpy old man,  he is one tough cookie but is not afraid to let anyone and everyone know what he is thinking. He loves his toys, taking long naps on his back, and being pet on his terms of course. Since everything has happened he is almost always by my side and wanting way more love and attention than he ever has before, he is such a character. (Fun fact: Macie and Jay Jay were together since puppyhood, they have always made a awesome pair but their personalities were totally opposite in every way)

Meet Odin - Our Great Dane had a trip to the emergency vet due to ingesting something (they never did figure out what). He also had to undergo a surgery recently to remove a cyst on his front leg, it has healed up nicely even though not all the hair is growing back in. Odin is our resident goofball, he always knows how to make me smile. He is incredibly gentle and fits right in with our pack despite being the huge odd man out, even our cats love him.

Meet Treymo - Our handsome rescue Chihuahua who has bad genetics when it comes to teeth and needs a teeth cleaning about every 6 months to prevent infection (though we have been trying a new tactic and are hoping to expand that timeframe out a bit). He also has luxating patellas in his back legs (which basically means his knees pop out of place and get stuck for a couple of strides before popping back in) and this requires him to be on a joint supplement for life to hopefully protect him from needing corrective surgery in the years to come. Treymo also has incredibly bad allergies especially to chicken. Over the years we have struggled to find a food that agrees with him, we currently have him on the science diet zd line and have another month to go before we know if it will work. Treymo is one of a kind. He is so loving, gentle, patient, calm, and so incredibly sensitive. It took us several years to help him overcome the abuse he had endured, he finally seems comfortable in his own skin and trusts us wholeheartedly. He is absolutely an amazing little guy.

Meet Inara - One of our rescue cats needs a dental procedure done to remove a couple of painful teeth. Inara is what I like to call our beautiful white tigress, she is very vocal, loves to be pet, and enjoys hours of sunbathing daily.

Those are just the big health issues but of course we also had/have their normal checkups, vaccines, exams, and bloodwork every 6mo for the seniors and the bills just keep coming.

Anything that you can contribute today will mean the absolute world to us. These beautiful animals are not just pets they are our family. Every single cent that is donated will go directly to them. Thank you for taking the time to read our story, please donate/like/share and help us save our family! ❤️❤️❤️

Update #6

Dee Dee Update

Our time with this precious girl is limited. Based off her most recent blood work we can see her kidneys have declined quite a bit in the past three months. So, this is the primary reason she has lost so much weight and muscle mass. She also had high levels of phosphorous so we have her back on medications for that as well as increasing the amount of subcutaneous fluids she gets from twice a week to every other day. Since implementing these suggestions from our vet, she has gotten more of her appetite back and seems to maybe be putting back on a little weight. We are staying positive and doing everything to keep her happy, and healthy while making memories and taking in the moments.

Macie Update

The day after receiving the bad news about Dee Dee we had an appointment for Macie to get a senior blood panel done, we do them every 6 months or so to ensure her organs are working well and to catch any signs of disease. I also noticed a bump on her back leg earlier that week so while we were there had the vet check it out. After she took a look at the sample she informed me it was not a fatty tumor and she wasn’t liking what she was seeing. She requested we remove it quickly and have a biopsy done. The good news is based on size and location she feels confident doing a minor surgery with sedation and a pain block rather than going full on anesthesia (which at Macie’s age is pretty scary).

Please consider donating to our cause. Our furry family is worth every penny, they have a lust for life that we can see every day. We could really use some help covering Macie’s surgery, we are still recovering from all of the piled-up vet bills from our recent run of bad luck.

We have also made a website dedicated entirely to our Crew, it has information on our fundraisers, health facts, fun facts, photo gallery and more. It gives details about each of our Crew and its definitely worth a read www.mycrittercrew.com

Thank you to all our supporters, you have all been absolutely amazing and we appreciate each and every one of you. You make it all possible!

Update #5

Inara had her dental procedure done yesterday and it was even more needed than we had previously thought. They told us that during the procedure, when they touched the two teeth they knew were painful she started chattering (even though she was knocked out and under anesthesia). Apparently she was in much more pain than we knew so thankfully they noticed in her yearly exam (one of the many reasons they are so important) because she showed no indication at home of being in pain or that anything was abnormal. It was heartbreaking to hear she was in that much pain but we are happy that it is all behind her and within a few days she will feel like a brand new kitty.

She is doing well, eating soft food, drinking like normal, and resting (with the added help of pain pills). The dental procedure itself cost $485 and that included the extractions, cleaning, and meds. That does not include the exam, or the blood panel that needed to be ran prior to her procedure. Though some might think we are crazy, she is worth every penny and more. We will take her in for a recheck on Tuesday and will update everyone soon.

Update #4

Hello friends, its been a while since our last update. We have found out the hard way that working two jobs while running a household as full as ours can be challenging and time consuming, but as always totally worth it. Due to how long its been since our last post there are a couple of updates on several of our crew.

Overall things are going well, though the last few months have come with a few speed bumps.

Inara our rescued white kitty is going in on March 8th to get a much needed dental to remove some painful teeth she has.
Treymo our little rescue Chihuahua has been having some extreme allergy issues to the point of itching himself bald in some spots. We did finally narrow down at least one trigger which was our laundry detergent, we have since changed to the sensitive skin and he is starting to improve though he is still having issues and we will continue to try and figure it out. So far we know he is very allergic to chicken, and laundry detergent.
We are also battling a weight issue with Dee Dee, she has dropped in weight but we are working hard with the vet to figure out what we can do. So far we think it has to do with the condition of her teeth that they were unable to remove, we would simply do a dental procedure in any normal case but due to her age and the state of her kidneys and other organs the vet does not feel comfortable putting that kind of stress on her body. Due to this we have been discussing options on what we can do to help her while making sure she stays happy and healthy. We have increased the amount of times we give her subcutaneous fluids for her kidneys and are doing our best to slow down the progression of her kidney disease as much as possible.
Currently Jay Jay is being treated for a staph infection that needed Antibiotics, as soon as he clears up from that he is also due for his ACTH tests for his Cushings disease and his senior blood work panel to ensure his organs are doing well and make sure we have him on the right dosage amounts for his Cushings disease.
All things considered and compared to the last two years we cant ask for much better, we appreciate each and every day we get with our furry family. We also appreciate each and everyone of you that have donated to our cause, it means the absolute world to us and there are not enough words to tell you how much we appreciate your generosity. Thank you for your love and support and we will work hard to bring regular updates.

Update #3

Update: Currently our little man Treymo is refusing to eat, we got him into the vet this morning and unfortunately here comes another big vet bill. We wont know for sure until we get the blood test results back on exactly what his problem is but based off his symptoms and his vet history, both I and the vet are pretty sure he is in pain due to the condition of his teeth which look and smell pretty terrible, its soo disheartening too because we literally did a dental teeth cleaning on him less than a year ago but because genetically his teeth are so weak this has been a constant battle. Our first concern is always their health and quality of life so we will do whatever we need to ensure he gets the treatment he needs as quickly as possible. The vet sent us home with some anti nausea medication (to hopefully help us to get him eating again) and some apoquel because on top of everything else he is also having pretty bad allergic reactions to something (either environmental or food at this point we are not entirely sure). We left today with another $284.44 bill (though the cost is including subcutaneous fluids for Dee Dee) and an estimate for his dental procedure that will land us somewhere between another $300-600 on top of the bill we paid today. The positive in all of this is tomorrow is Thanksgiving and we are thankful for all of our wonderful supporters, we have met so many amazing people through this experience and even though money is tight we have a ton of blessings and wonderful fur babies to be thankful for. Thanks again to all of you Angels out there and Happy Thanksgiving to each and every one of you!

Update #2

Well its official, me and my husband were both able to find second jobs willing to work with our schedules.. Luckily my full time job is from home so the furbabies will still have me around most of the time. We are hoping to be able to make a dent in the vet debt we are swimming in so when the next health issue crops up we will be able to tackle it. Thank you for your continued support through these tough times, you are all Angels!

Update #1

Thank you all so much! Because of your generosity we will now be able to get Jay Jay and Dee Dee into the vet to get their updated blood-work and vaccines, this helps us ensure that their medications and treatments are still effective and helps us to give them their optimal care. We will also be having the vet check on a small lump we found on Jay Jay's ear, so wish us luck. Thanks again everyone! We couldn't do it alone, you truly are our Angels!
