Update #2

Sorry for late update.

I just wanted to let you know that I have successfully completed the TCS New York City Marathon on Nov 2, 2014. It took me 4 hours 58 minutes to complete the full marathon (26.2 miles/42.2 km). We have successfully raised US $ 2,560 , thanks to all of you. I am working on the logistics to transfer the money to Palpa, Nepal.

Running the New York City Marathon was truly a magical experience for me. On the race day, I woke up at 5 AM and I was so excited to be part of this amazing race that the cold and windy weather didn't even bother me. I was among 50,000 runners from all around the world. The race was very well organized. For me, the best part of the race were the spectators. Imagine 2 million spectators line the streets of the five boroughs of New York City from start to finish cheering you on. There were bands on every block, people out on their roofs and balconies and lots of little children who just wanted a high five from marathoners. Even as you're hitting the 'wall', the energy of the crowds rallying you gives you the extra boost needed to get to the finish line - an experience unlike anything I've felt.

The New York City Marathon is something special, if you are considering doing a marathon, I highly recommend it. I truly believe it’s something you need to experience in order to really experience it. The videos, the blogs, the recaps…they don’t do this race enough justice. The fans, the support, the camaraderie do — it’s an absolute 26.2 mile magic.

Thanks for helping this magic happen for me; and making an impact by supporting the school in Palpa. I will keep you updated on future progress.

Cheers,
Anil

In case if you do not know me, I am Anil Pachhai, a Nepali living in United States for last 15 years.  I call San Francisco Bay area my second home.  I am currently working as a Technical Product Manager at AVG Technologies (creator of AVG AntiVirus) and previously worked for Oracle, Unisys, Stellent and Jostens Inc.

New York Marathon has been in my bucket list for a while and finally this year on Nov 2nd, I will be participating in full New York Marathon ( 26.2 Miles/ 42.2 kilometers). This will be my second marathon.  In 2010, I ran Big Sur international marathon.

You might ask if I like running long distance. Not really, I dread it. According to my DNA analysis, my traits are more inclined towards sprinter rather than a long distance runner.   I see long distance running more like, setting a goal and working hard to achieve it.

Running for a cause:

I will be using this golden opportunity to raise money for a cause that I care about. 100% of money raised from this marathon will be donated to a small primary school called Majuwa primary school in Hungi, Palpa Nepal. I have chosen this school because I was born in this village and I know this school can genuinely utilize the money.  Money raised will be donated to school management and it will be utilized in school infrastructures including playground or any initiatives that will help students.

So when I spend my countless hours training for this marathon, I will not only be thinking about the finish line but also how the children from rural village will be benefiting from the donation we have raised. I need your help to reach my goal! Please become a supporter to follow my progress and share with your friends.

Thanks
