Angel for an Outfielder: Lori's Love Offering

Angel for an Outfielder: Lori's Love Offering

From Holly Wheatley

As friends of Lori, we are creating a love offering to help with finances after her kidney donation. While she gladly accepts all the sacrifices, the time off work for recovery will present some financial stress.

For anyone who knows Lori Owen, you know what a selfless, caring and genuine person she is.  So, when she learned that one of her son’s baseball teammates needed a kidney transplant, it was no surprise that she offered herself up to help.  Over the course of many months, many tests and much prayer the good news came in….she was a match!

Followed was more appointments, tests, and lots of waiting.  All through the process, Lori was unwavering in her commitment and comfort in this being God’s plan for her.  She knew the possible complications and risks; the sacrifices that would be made.  But, she also knew that she was meant to be his donor.

Now the date has been set for the operation….June 21.  There is excitement and hopefulness for an 18 year old to finally feel like an 18 year old should!  There is happiness and contentment for Lori blessing him with that feeling.

As the date approaches, the reality is really setting in for Lori and the families involved.  In addition to the physical element of this commitment, there is also a financial factor.  Lori will have to be out of work for quite some time to recover.  While she is focused on her part as a donor and is honored to do so, we know there is some concern for the impact it will have on the family’s finances.

So, as her friends, we decided to start a love offering to hopefully help close some of those gaps and alleviate some of the stress.

This surgery has been prayed for and both patients prayed over.  We trust that the outcome is in God’s hands and will be a blessing to all involved.
