Ride for Emma Clarke

Emma is now fighting cancer for the third time in just two years. With the recent news that there is no cure in sight her family is faced with moving from 'around-the-bay' to St. John's to complete chemotherapy every 3 weeks on a regular basis for the forseeable future. After undergoing her 3rd surgery for Wilm's Disease (a type of Kidney Cancer) on her 6th birthday just last month she has shown incredible strength and perseverance. Your support will allow her family to focus on her medical therapy and make every day a memorable one.

The background:

Emma's story started with a swollen belly in February of 2018 which turned out to be a large tumor enveloping her kidney. Just a few weeks later she had her first surgery which involved removing her kidney, then then came the diagnosis of Wilm's tumor and subsequent 8 months of chemotherapy. This was heartbreaking for her parents and older brother Ryan but they got through it with high spirits and Emma rang the bell that signified her being cancer-free in September of 2018.

The Clarke family were happy to be home and getting back to normal life, unfortunately this didn't last long. In November of 2018 Emma developed a fever and upon investigation it was determined that her cancer was back for a second time. She had developed a tumor in the void where the removed kidney was. This meant another surgery and more intensive chemotherapy coupled with radiation and Emma and her parents were at the hospital or Ronald McDonald House for the next 8 1/2 months.

After her second course of therapy she underwent a scan to determine if they had successfully fought this battle. Then came the dreaded news, that her cancer had in fact returned again. She underwent another surgery in October 2019 on her 6th birthday and has since started chemotherapy again. Her treatment course right now involves chemo for a week, testing for a week, 'off' for a week, then starting all over again. Her family will be moving to St. John's from their home in Victoria and face financial stress of renting in the city, as well as medical expenses associated with medications that Emma will need to prevent nausea and vomiting from her chemotherapy, medications to raise her blood cells after chemo, and more.

Bespoke did a Karma Ride for Emma during her second course of treatment and has been very supportive of efforts to alleviate the financial burden of this disease on the family. The amazing community at bespoke believes that we can do more to help and have upped the ante. This ride will help to provide Emma and her family some financial support to make every day about Emma and her quality of life.

Glenn, Emma's dad, put it in the best words (during the first journey), Emma will get us through this with her smile, her giggle, and her ability to find joy in every situation.

Let's help Emma live her best life, bespoke! Let's Ride!
