Cancer can be painful, cancer can be scary, and cancer can make you feel all alone. Our hope is that through Giving Comfort, cancer patients can have a community. A community of supporters and sponsors that is there to comfort them in their time of need.
Started in October 2012 by the McKesson Foundation, Giving Comfort provides cancer patients with a Comfort Kit – a beautiful backpack or tote bag filled with the most needed items to alleviate the stress and discomfort caused by cancer treatment.
This year, more than 1.6 million people in the United States will be diagnosed with cancer, and nearly one quarter of U.S. cancer patients will exhaust all savings as a result of treatment costs. 11% will struggle to afford food or basic necessities due to treatment expense.
While having cancer is hard, finding comfort shouldn’t be. Giving Comfort has created more than 22,000 Comfort Kits, which are distributed to low-income patients through a national network of non-profit hospital partners. Right here in Georgia, we reach patients through Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Grady Health Foundation, and the ACS Atlanta Hope Lodge!
We’re holding the inaugural 2013 Alpharetta Giving Comfort Walk on Friday, May 24 to increase awareness about Giving Comfort and to help raise funds to provide an additional 200 Comfort Kits to cancer patients in need. Each Comfort Kit you help provide lets a patient with cancer know that he or she is not alone.
Please join our community in providing hope and comfort to the patients that need it most. Your donation is tax-deductible, and 100% of individual funds raised go directly towards helping low-income patients with cancer.
As a thank you to our donors and fundraisers, participants who raise or donate at least $10 will be invited to join the donor luncheon on the day of the event.
Can’t donate? Please share. Even a quick share on Facebook can help.
The average share raises $97.
