I'm raising funds to help Visiting Hooves, a 501c3 Nonprofit Charity, continue visits with miniature therapy horses & therapy bunnies to memory care facilities, nursing homes, hospice, special needs groups, etc.
Alzheimers and Dementia residents in memory care facilities often lack enough contact with another living being. They often retreat into their own little world, not speaking to anyone and barely reacting to the people around them. Many sit quietly for most of the day in a wheelchair, bed, or couch. That is until the THERAPY ANIMALS arrive! Many residents smile, laugh, and reach out to pet or hug the horses or bunnies. Some even speak to the animals and their handlers and try to tell them little stories about their past lives with beloved pets. For that moment, the residents feel close to another warm, living being who is non-judgemental and loving. It brings them real happiness and joy for that short time and is a wonderful improvement in their mental health.
Visiting Hooves is a 501c3 Nonprofit Charity in southwest Washington state who visits memory care facilities, nursing homes, senior assisted living, hospice, and special needs homes. It maintains 5 miniature therapy horses and 5 therapy bunnies. For the past 3 years, it provided visits wherever needed for free and now only asks for donations from facilities to help offset the high expense of feed, housing, veterinary care, plus insurance, vehicle costs and fuel expenses for transporting the animals. It is an all volunteer program.
Many small facilities or adult family homes can not afford a donation and Visiting Hooves still tries to visit them. With your help, many more facilities will be able to also be included in visits. Many, many lonely elderly or mentally impaired people will be helped by your generous donation!
