Update #15

A final update:

Zelda went to her forever home on 4/8/18. Wilson went along too, but he just didn't adjust, so we have him back at home with us now.

We're still looking for homes for Stella, Hank, and Wilson, but we're closing our fundraising campaign. Thank you for everything over the past year. Your generosity has really made a difference in the lives of our fosters!

You can still find us on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and WordPress. We'll keep our pages and channel going as long as we need to. If you'd like to help other animals in need in our area, we encourage you to donate to PAWS of Alabama (link below).

Thanks again!

Clara's Story

We rescued Clara from a life on the streets on April 19th, 2017, and she now lives in a spare third floor office with her kittens, born on Friday, April 28th.

Clara and her kittens are named after characters from the Back to the Future movie series (Doc, George, Marty, Lorraine, and Maggie), which is where the "BTTF Kittens" nickname originates.

All of the BTTF kittens have now been adopted! Clara still needs to find her forever home.

- Marty: adopted 7/9/17

- Maggie: adopted 8/7/17

- Lorraine: adopted 8/19/17

- George: adopted 8/20/17

- Doc: adopted 2/2/18

Check out our live kitten cams on YouTube!

Stella's Story

Stella was a longtime stray outside the Alley to Attic office. We were finally able to rescue her while she was pregnant with yet another litter. She had her five tabby kittens at our vet's office on Memorial Day. They're named after famous Alabamians: Percy (Sledge), Lionel (Richie), Wilson (Pickett), Hank (Williams), and Zelda (Fitzgerald).

They moved into the BTTF Kittens’ former room in July when they were six weeks old, and they've been with us ever since. Percy was adopted on 11/12/17, and the other four relocated to our house on February 2nd. Lionel was adopted shortly after that, on 2/17/18, and Zelda was adopted on 4/8/18.

All adoptable cats and kittens are listed on Petfinder under PAWS-AL, or you can also email us with any questions or to request an adoption application.

Update #15

Since our last episode...

We've relocated Stella and her kittens to our house, and both Doc and Lionel have been adopted! You can find more photos of adoption and moving days over on the WordPress blog (alleytoattickittens.wordpress.com/).

I apologize again for the sporadic updates. We've been staying busy! We've been to some more adoption events (although they haven't panned out for us), and we're helping PAWS of Alabama (www.facebook.com/PAWSofAlabama) as much as we can with their Facebook page and their adoptable cats at PetSmart, as well as raising money for special cases they take on (like Rocky and his severely injured foot - see Facebook for more info).

We're hopeful that things will work out soon for our four remaining fosters at the house (Stella, Hank, Zelda, and Wilson), and we're still open to adopting Clara out too. However, if we can't find the right family for her, she can just be office cat #3.

Thanks again for the support!

Update #14

Sorry for the spam, but there were some errors/discrepancies in links in the last update!

I screwed up the format on the WordPress blog link. It should be:
http://alleytoattickittens.wordpress.com

The nonprofit rescue we're working with has gone by both PAWS in Alabama and PAWS of Alabama, but they're shifting all their links to PAWS of Alabama. They're on Facebook here:
http://www.facebook.com/PAWSofAlabama

They also have a website, if you aren't on Facebook, although we have now made their Facebook page publicly visible:
http://pawsofalabama.com

Update #13

Since our last post, Percy has been adopted! It was actually at the adoption event we shared with you. Here is a recent picture of him living it up in his forever home, still as goofy as ever!

There's another adoption event this weekend, but we may just help out and bring flyers/photos rather than bring the kittens since most of them do so poorly in that setting. We do have inquiries into Zelda and Wilson through Petfinder, so hopefully one or both of them will work out! They'll be 8 months old soon (and Doc will be 9). The time has really flown!

I've also started a WordPress blog to go along with our other social media ( www,wordpress.com/alleytoattickittens ). I have a new camera that I'm trying to use to get better photos of all the adoptable cats and kittens. My posts are sporadic right now, but I hope to make them more frequent.

We also updated the name and link for our YouTube channel so that it's closer to everything else we have going. Formerly "From Alley to Attic: Third Floor Kitten Rescue Project," we're now Alley to Attic Kittens and Cats ( www.youtube.com/c/AlleyToAtticKittensandCats/ ). Update your links if you need to!

Finally, the local rescue we've been working with this whole time to get discounted spays/neuters, PAWS in Alabama, have made us admins to their Facebook page. We're working to help them grow their following and raise money so that they can help even more pets in need! You can find them on Facebook here: www.facebook.com/PAWSinAlabama . Please give them a follow if you haven't already.

Thanks for your ongoing support!

Update #11

The Fundly platform has been absolutely wonderful in allowing us to accept donations to help with the expenses of all of the cats and kittens in our care. However, I know I haven't fully utilized it as a way to keep everyone updated like I should!

Now that we've been able to spay and neuter all of our fosters, our ongoing expenses will be much lower. To be honest, we stopped separately tracking their food and litter after their surgeries - we just rolled those expenses into our permanent cat budgets. For that reason, we won't be increasing the goal again.

While we appreciate every penny that everyone has donated toward these kittens, and while we'll continue accepting donations beyond our final goal, we'd love it if you donated toward causes that are in greater need than we are. We often share fundraisers for other fosters and/or emergency vet bills on our Facebook page (and often donate to them ourselves). The most recent one can be found here: https://www.youcaring.com/prettygirl-962891

There are also other kitten cams that we follow that have new litters and the expenses that come with them, including Christine's Kitten Room and The Critter Room. Follow them on Facebook and YouTube!

I wish I had more to update you all with in regards to the Alley to Attic kittens, but there are unfortunately no adoptions to report. We've had some inquiries into a couple of the Bama kittens, but no followups to our initial emails. Doc and Clara are also still waiting for their forever homes.

The good news, if you haven't been able to peek in on the live streams lately, is that Doc has befriended the Bama kittens so he's able to go into their room to play with them! The boys were neutered a week or two before Zelda was spayed, and she just got her staples removed on Monday, so everyone is 100% recovered and ready for adoption. We're also letting them come out into the big cat room to explore while we supervise.

Another new favorite toy for all the cats and kittens (except grumpy old Stella): the red dot! We try to play with them all with the laser pointer every other day or so, and they just love it.

I'll leave you with this hilarious screenshot that Larry was able to capture for us of too many cats in a hammock: Percy, Lionel, and Wilson sprawled over poor Stella.

Thanks again for all your support!

Update #10

So much has happened since our last update!

The remaining BTTF kittens have been fixed, and three more have been adopted! Maggie went home on 8/7, Lorraine on 8/19, and George on 8/20. That just leaves Doc! We're keeping him and Clara in the room together overnight, so he doesn't get lonely, but the two of them are allowed to roam the main office during the day with the permanent residents (Lily and Stumpy). If you check the live stream and don't see anything, that might be why! The door is left open, though, so you might see them (and Lily and Stumpy) pop in and out.

The Bama kittens turned 12 weeks old today and should be spayed and neutered this week. It looks like we'll need to have Zelda spayed on Friday so that we're able to separate her and Stella from the boys (in the upstairs bathroom, as we did for Lorraine and Maggie, while the office is empty over the weekend).

We're trying to introduce Doc to the other kittens, so that he can make new friends, but he's being a bit mean and standoffish right now. Maybe he'll warm up more after they're fixed too.

Everyone is now posted on PetFinder! I'll be updating the links in our page info.

Thank you to everyone for following along on our journey so far, and thanks so much for all the generous gifts you've sent the kittens!

Update #9

Apologies again for our infrequent updates!

If you follow us on Facebook or watch our usually-daily closeups, you're probably up to speed. I also updated our page info without making a post about litter #2: Stella's Alabama kittens.

We now have two live streams in two different offices: one for the BTTF kittens and one for Stella and her kittens (Zelda, Hank, Percy, Wilson, and Lionel, all named for famous Alabama natives). There has been some interest in Clara and some of the BTTF kittens, but no one else has been adopted yet. Clara and her kittens are now up-to-date on all their shots, and we'll be scheduling the kittens' spays & neuters in another week or so. We want to have them all done at once, and tiny Maggie still doesn't weigh the minimum 3 lbs! They turned 13 weeks old today.

Stella and her kittens are doing well in their new space, which they arrived in just over two weeks ago. They're now a little over 8 weeks old and have had one booster so far. Stella is not warming up to life indoors very quickly, but she is sweet to us despite hiding under the desk almost constantly. Her kittens are just as fun and outgoing as the BTTF kittens now. Stella is scheduled for her spay next week, as we think the kittens who continue to nurse occasionally are having digestive issues due to that. We'll be ordering her a surgical recovery suit so she won't have to be separated as long.

We're still in contact with the local rescue about possible Petsmart spaces for Clara or her kittens after they get fixed, but there is nothing firm yet.

Again, for more frequent updates, I hope you're following on Facebook/Instagram and watching our videos! Thanks to everyone for all of your ongoing support! You really are a huge help in making sure all our foster cats continue to get the care they need while we find homes for them.

Please feel free to share our pages and Petfinder links with potential adopters or have them email [email protected] for an adoption application! We will care for these sweet babies as long as we need to, but they deserve to find loving forever homes as soon as possible.

Update #8

Our live streams may be down right now due to networking issues caused by lightning striking the building, but everyone is safe and we're working hard to get them back up!

In the meantime, you can check out our old videos on YouTube or follow us on Facebook/Instagram for photos of all the cats and kittens.

We look forward to streaming again soon!

Update #7

Apologies for not updating more often!

The biggest news is that Marty has been adopted! He went to his forever home on Sunday. We will still be in contact with his new owners to help get his neuter scheduled sometime after his 12 week birthday, along with his last boosters and rabies shot.

We're currently working out how to best continue caring for the rest of the BTTF kittens (who are now 10 weeks old) and Stella's No Name kittens who have lived at the vet since birth, and who are now 6 weeks old. Check our live stream and daily close-up streams for our final plans once they're made.

For now, we're looking at bringing Stella & family to the Attic, but we aren't sure where the four remaining BTTF kittens will go. We may keep all nine kittens in two separate rooms, or we may send some or all of the BTTF kittens to live at the vet during the week (in a cat condo in their lobby) for greater visibility. Clara goes today to get a sore on her neck looked at, and we'll know more after the appointment (3 PM CDT).

Whatever happens, we will now be paying for upcoming boosters, spays, and neuters for all nine kittens as well as Stella, so I've bumped our goal up just a bit. I will probably increase it again once our costs are better known.

We've also posted Clara and the remaining kittens on Petfinder (link in our page description) with the help of a local rescue group, who is also helping us with discounts on vet bills. As you'll note on the Petfinder listings, we are collecting adoption fees that will go toward their vaccinations and spays/neuters. However, that amount does not cover the full cost, even at discounted rates, so we will continue to pay out of pocket to make up the difference. Any donations you make here will be much appreciated!

Tabby continues to do well at our house, getting braver each day about how far he'll venture out of his room. He seems mostly unbothered by one of our dogs, and he and our two youngest cats (Binx and Salem) have become good friends. While we would love to find a forever home for him, he is still very skittish about new things even after weeks in our home. He would require a very patient and understanding adopter, and if we're not able to find one, we won't mind keeping him as another "foster failure." He is a sweet and wonderful cat, despite his rough start in life.

Thanks again for all your support! Be sure to follow us on YouTube, Facebook, or Instagram if you haven't already for daily pictures, posts, and updates.

Update #6

We just wanted to post a quick update here!

All of our vet visits last week went perfectly. The kittens and Tabby all tested negative for FIV and FeLV, the kittens received their boosters, and Tabby received his vaccinations and was neutered. He's recovering just fine from the surgery, only requiring twice daily antibiotics for the rest of the week. He loves taking them in Greenies Pill Pockets. :)

Those vet visits were necessary but not inexpensive, costing over $700 combined. We are so grateful for your continued donations and generosity! After fees, they have covered 57% of our total costs so far. Thank you again!

The kittens will not need another booster until they're right at 10 weeks old. We're also looking into a local organization that does pediatric spay/neuter in order to get them fixed before they go to their forever homes.

Tabby is ready to go as soon as his antibiotics are finished! He is a wonderfully sweet and loving cat, although still a bit skittish. Please share if you know anyone who would be interested in providing a loving home to any of our cats and kittens.

Update #5

Thank you all so much for your continuing generosity!

We've updated our goal amount to reflect our growing kitten expenses (food, supplies, and veterinary care ) and to include Tabby's upcoming vet visit. He is scheduled for vaccinations and his neuter this Friday, June 16.

We also continue to provide food for Stella and her litter of five tabbies (pictured) while they reside at our vet's office.

The BTTF kittens will have their own checkups and boosters on Thursday, June 15th. They will be seven weeks old on Friday!

If you're nearby or local, please help us get the word out about these sweet cats and kittens! We need to find them all forever homes.

Thank you again!

Update #4

The BTTF kittens turn five weeks old today, and everyone is finally eating canned food! That means no more bottle feeding and a little less stress for the two of us and Clara too. However, that means we'll now be purchasing a lot more food and litter. They're currently only eating canned food, but hopefully we'll be able to let them start free feeding on dry food overnight soon.

Thanks to our donors for helping us nearly reach our first goal! After totaling our expenses so far, donations have covered more than 60% of the food, supplies and vet bills for the kittens' first four weeks. We'll probably adjust the goal upward once we have our next vet visit in a week or so. They'll be receiving their first boosters then.

It looks like our viewers have purchased almost everything on our Amazon Wish List too (http://a.co/aIDqTV9). Thank you so much for your generosity! Once we start receiving them in the mail, we'll be sure to do a live unboxing so that you can see Clara and her kittens enjoy their new toys right away. We might add some more items to that list, so check back later if you want to send a gift! All toys, beds, etc. will go home with Clara or the kittens once they're adopted.

Thank you again for your kindness! We are so grateful for such a caring group of fans. Clara and her kittens say thanks too!

Update #3

Thanks to both of our very generous supporters for already getting us over halfway to our goal!

Thanks also for everyone watching the BTTF kittens closely who noticed that Lorraine had developed a limp. We noticed it as well and consulted with a vet, who recommended waiting to see if it improved on its own.

We're happy to report it had already improved within a day! We hope it will continue to get better, but if it doesn't, we'll be sure to schedule a vet appointment.

We were also able to get all three boys to drink from the bottle last night, since they're still not eating the gruel mixture off the plate. Marty finally licked formula from the plate too, but is still not interested in the food. Lorraine and Maggie continue to eat gruel until their little bellies can't fit any more!

Thank you again for supporting us and caring about Clara and her sweet babies.

Update #2

Welcome to anyone who happened to follow the link to our new fundraising page! Feel free to donate as much or as little as you want - every dollar helps.

Our goal may change based on unforeseen costs, but the current amount should cover a portion of the food, supplies, and vet bills for both Clara and her kittens over the next two months (along with bills already paid over the past four weeks).

Clara eats high quality dry and canned kitten food along with reconstituted kitten formula for extra nutrition. The kittens have been introduced to canned food/formula mixtures, but only two are interested in eating it so far. We use non-clumping clay litter which has to be changed frequently. Once the kittens learn to use the litter box, we'll be changing it even more often.

Clara and kittens have had three visits to the vet so far. They've all been dewormed, Clara has received a rabies vaccination and a Capstar, and we were prescribed some high calorie food for her digestive issues. We will use Revolution on Clara once we feel comfortable separating her from the kittens for two hours (to allow it to dry). Their next routine visit will be in two weeks, where the kittens will begin receiving their booster shots.

Thanks for reading!
