Brega Bien is searching for your help! Our current space...

The Project

Brega Bien is a community project aimed at high risk communities comprised of individuals between the ages of 12-24; based in San Juan, Puerto Rico that provides resources to the community in order to create safe spaces for the young to thrive into a better social environment through a performing arts platform. This includes, community interaction and development through sexual and violence prevention programs, as well as educational services that encourage cultural and artistic expression.

As a result to our youth’s risk of academic interest, use of violence, and high risk sexual conduct inside our community, we want to make a bigger initiative to prevent and educate them through the previously mentioned performing arts platform.

The project’s goal is to move our project remodeling an acquired three-story building located in San Juan, Puerto Rico that would provide safe spaces and performing arts instruments/resources such as radio, television, painting, sculpting, acting, music production, photography, poetry and creative resources, among others, that will empower our youth to produce and distribute their artistic pieces to the world and ultimately open doors inside the performing arts world. We acquired a new building in 2008, and have gained half of the money/funding needed to reconstruct our community project. However, we are searching for the last push in order to jump-start what looks like a promising future.

The $550,000 Goal covers: contractors, construction materials, plumbing, furniture, and electrical wiring installation, hiring expert advising for the development of the project, among other necessities. Once moved, we can re-open our doors to our youth in the community so they can keep developing and improving their artistic abilities/work (just like our amazing prizes!). Our youth mission is to reinvent themselves through art and innovation. This way, we attempt to provide a more positive and prosperous development of Puerto Rican society and become the spark to promote this movement around the world.

As for our awesome rewards…. Once our project is done, the first things we are going to develop are your rewards. Prizes include a formal visit to our actual youth media center, limited edition art pieces created by our youth, t-shirts, pins, among other prices hand-made. This will be the change to provide our youth and community the opportunity to create a special art piece just for you!

About Brega Bien

Dr. José Vargas Vidot founded our free community youth program through "Iniciativa Comunitaria". He presented the idea that a program could be created to provide a safe space for community interaction and development through sexual and violence prevention programs, as well as educational services that encourage cultural and artistic expression. The program targets young people between 12 - 24 years of age suffering from grim economic, social, and educational circumstances and gives them the opportunity to recognize and improve their skills, passions, creativeness and potential in order to achieve a more fruitful and productive quality of life. The program helps them veer away from "non-positive" influences and activities that threaten their future. Our proyect wants to not only prevent our youth from entering a violent environment, but also assure that our younger population grows up feeling confident that they have an important place in our society and will contribute to its development positively. Evidently, we need talented and ambitious individuals to help us accomplish our goal of creating a hopefull and understanding community. We acknowledge that change comes from an effort of both sides, and have seen our youth desire to overcome their environmental circumstances. Our initiative can provide them with the necessary paths, opportunities and influences to make it happen. In order for our organization to achieve its mission and prosper, it needs both the youth and the contributor to commit to being dedicated individuals. The first will spread personal and collective progressiveness and the latter will provide the means for this to be possible. The contributors are the essential liaisons needed between the participants and the program. Together we will prove the world that Puerto Rico values its people and can produce effective, long-lasting community transformation.

Mission and Vision

Our youth mission is to reinvent themselves through art and innovation. This way, we attempt to provide a more positive and prosperous development of Puerto Rican society.

We share our free tools to our participants so they grow as leaders of positive changes within their families and communities.

Risks and challenges

Like any project, there are challenges and risks in delivering our rewards; anyway, in this case, they are minimal with your contribution. We are committed to the fulfillment of our agreements. We agree with our "backers" that "rewards" will be delivered; it will all depend on the unique nature of the one you selected. Each contribution agreed with our "backers" will have an estimated time for delivery. Please just have a little patience, especially because many of the "rewards" will be produced by the youth in our communities. We also have a backup plan in case of any delay. The issues related to deliver "rewards" and the ones that depend on the availability of the "backer" and the community project resources (especially in PR) are the most liable. There are no 100% guarantees but we like to be true to our word. The integrity in our service is not only for the youth of our communities but to all people with whom we interact, especially those who financially support our projects which for us is the perfect example of how we can represent the name of our community program (“Brega Bien” or “Do it right”), so this brings us closer to fulfill our word by 99%. Just trust us and all our strength will be invested in the promises we made to our backers. We deeply appreciate your support for this Project!
