Resilience Racing is an amateur auto racing team comprised of remarkable combat veterans who are united by a common mission to progressively advance adaptive racing programs across multiple forms of motorsports. Racing provides a unique platform for servicemen and women to compete, overcome, win, and share with the world their incredible stories of fortitude and resilience.  

Nearly 18 years of combat have resulted in soaring numbers of those who no longer have the use of their legs, many unable to pursue their racing passions. Cost, technical complexity, and limited access to training are currently barriers to those with disabilities.  

Motorsports should instead be the great equalizer for the para-disabled, and Resilience Racing seeks to blaze new paths through its racing programs and innovations in accessibility, affordability, and performance.  Racing-specific controls are currently not within reach of most aspiring drivers, and this innovation will allow the driver to manage the throttle, brake and clutch with optimized ergonomics to truly compete on a level playing field. 

To do this, Resilience Racing is actively working with engineers at Team Brit, an adaptive racing team in the UK, MME Motorsports of Slovenia, and Glenn Sidman of SimAbility to further develop and modify components to fit the unique requirements of amateur racing chassis.

Our success on the racetrack will further open doors for all aspiring disabled drivers.

About the the team 

 Kirk Dooley - Team Principal / Co-Founder: 

  • Marine Officer, 24yr career as Intelligence and Special Operations Officer.   Multiple deployments including Iraq, and Afghanistan with Marine Special Operations Command (MARSOC).   Following retirement, served as Chief of Staff for INDYCAR and is currently Director of Event Operations for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway

Jon Winker - Team Manager / Co-Founder  

  • Army Specialist, Infantryman, left below knee amputee resulting from accident in Iraq in 2009.  Currently competes in pro-touring, autocross and time trial events. Attended Skip Barber’s Advanced Racing School in Mar 2019 and earned his SCCA Competition (Race) License

Calum Belden - Driver 

  • Marine Captain, 9yr career as an Infantry and Special Operations Officer with multiple deployments to Afghanistan, Korea, and the South Pacific with MARSOC.  Lifelong passion for Auto Racing competing in SCCA Formula Continental Regional Races.  Manager of People Operations at Figure financial tech startup.  Driven by being able to bring attention to and prove to disabled veterans there are no hurdles too large. 

 Nate Lampert - Driver

  • Marine CWO-5, 20yr career in Counterintelligence.  Multiple Deployments to Iraq, and Afghanistan with MARSOC.  Business Partner at Figure financial tech startup.  Driven to open opportunities to race for disabled veterans like his brother Matt

The team's primary focus in this endeavor is on Special Operations Officer Major Matt Lampert (USMC Retired) a double above-knee amputee, and Sergeant Kirstie Ennis (USMC Retired), a single above-knee amputee, who will be the first drivers to utilize the advanced hand controls currently being developed.  The spirit of this team is exemplified by the extraordinary accomplishments of these Marines in overcoming physical disabilities

Lampert’s incredible journey of resilience started with his commitment to continue to serve with his fellow Marines despite his life changing injuries.  Through tremendous determination and rehabilitative support, he deployed twice more with MARSOC, including back to Afghanistan to operate alongside his brother Nate Lampert in the same area as the fateful 2010 operation that claimed both legs.  Matt still runs 10 miles a week on special prosthetics and currently serves on staff with Senator Duckworth (IL).  

Ennis, a former helicopter door gunner who sustained numerous critical injuries during a crash in Afghanistan in 2012, has since embarked on several ambitious endeavors and works as a stuntwoman, a veterans’ advocate, and as an adaptive extreme athlete.  Ennis has already completed 5 of her 7 Summits Project in this record-breaking mission which will also raise money for the Kirstie Ennis Foundation.   She recently returned from an Everest climb that experienced technical challenges and left her only yards from completing the summit.  In addition to mountaineering, Ennis sees racing as a new mountain to conquer.  

 “Being a race car driver would be a means for me to redefine what is it to be “disabled.” All too often, we let the invisible and visible injuries dictate what we are capable of, when in reality, the six inches between our ears and what’s behind our ribcages do. Being a woman, and only having one leg in this industry is foreign, and it shouldn’t be. I am looking forward to raising awareness for the mentality that the possibilities are endless given you are willing to work for it.”  Kirstie
