Our family made it to our new home in the beautiful city of Merida, Yucatan right before Christmas. The plan was to live out our days together exploring the city, eating all the great food, and relaxing by the pool in the sun while watching the kids play. We had a routine MRI to monitor his brain cancer just after new years and it was devastating how much more cancer there was. The big old spot on the right didn't have much tumor growth, but it was INCREDIBLY swollen. That swelling pushed into the other side of his brain and was what was causing his new headaches. Additionally, there was new tumor growth on the other side of his brain and all the way down into his brain stem. The brain stem is what controls heart rate and breathing. We were shocked, and he started showing other symptoms like seizures and inability to walk pretty much right away. I thought that was the end of us. Thankfully the doctors here gave us some options and a little hope. We are going to try another round of radiation on the new tumor growth, and a low dose of chemo that has been shown to drastically improve the radiation effectiveness. After that we are planning on a few infusions of an anti swelling medicine that has been very effective in the past. If he can make it through the next few weeks, we will probably gain a few months. He is mostly his usual self, though maybe a little less graceful. He is still enjoying his time with his family, and for now the pain and seizures are under control. We have managed to maintain a pretty good quality of life for him. Thank you all for the overwhelming support. It got him a wheel chair and is financing all his many medications and radiotherapy treatments down here. I see and appreciate every single one of you helping with dollars and kind words and prayers for us right now. I promise I will get around to individual thank yous as soon as I can, but there are not enough hours in the day for me right now. We love you all.
