A Trip to Help Refugees

A Trip to Help Refugees

From Dan Rhon

The refugee crisis is staggering! Its easy to feel bad, but its harder to actually do something about it. We're going to go serve in a refugee camp over spring break this year!

There are a lot of bad and sad things that happen in this world.  We were challenged by a quote from Eugene Cho that said "This generation is more in love with the idea of changing the world, then actually changing the world."  Its easy to feel bad, but its harder to actually do something about it.

Usually we have pretty relaxing, fun, and exciting plans for spring break.  This year however, Noe (12 years old) and I (Dad) are going to give up our spring break for something hopefully a little less focused on us, and more focused on others!  These statistics gave us something to think about:  There are over 65 million displaced people in the world, and over 20 million are refugees (half under the age of 18). Many were successful in their communities, well-educated, etc, but forced to flee all they knew just to survive.  War, politics, and strife do not discriminate.

In the grand scheme of things, it's a small token, but we want to go and spend a week serving in a refugee camp. We hope we can make even a small difference in at least 1 person's life.....but I'm sure we'll also come back much richer human beings from the experience.  Please keep us in our prayers and watch the video Noe and I made to highlight some facts about refugees (sorry, the audio is not great)!

"Whenever you failed to help any of my people, no matter how unimportant they seemed, you failed to do it for me."  Matthew 25:45
