Hello! My name is Savannah, and I used to hate Shakespeare.

Like most students, I found his work to be difficult to understand. I couldn't connect to it, because I didn't see myself in any of his characters. Then, I took a proper Shakespeare class.

Last semester, I played Gertrude in a production of Hamlet at SJSU, and it changed the way I want to produce art.

During that production, I learned techniques that have enhanced the way I direct, act and write. I have been doing theatre for 11 years and been in over 25 productions, but nothing has affected me as much as Hamlet did.

Theatre is important because it promotes empathy. We see ourselves in the characters onstage and identify with them because they are reflections of humanity. When I played Gertrude, it was almost a wake-up call. I was reminded that I could see myself in her because she was human.

I want to participate in Shakespeare and Company to learn more. I want to emphasize with more characters. I want to become a better artist.

Your money will go toward tuition, my flight (it's across the country, so it's expensive!), and other living expenses (meals, supplies, etc.). Anything you can contribute is a big help!

I appreciate you taking the time to look at my campaign page!
