May Yanashama and her family fled the war in 2012. I met May on facebook as she was looking for distant family members. She was the sweetest and most positive person I have ever met and we built a deep friendship during the past 8 years. We tried to help her in any way possible to survive the weight of being away from home.

After several years trying to sponsor her and the family to Canada, we were successful to get two of her kids, Lina 33 and Mohamad 25, who landed safely on Feb 25, 2020 in Kingston. May and her young son, Youssef, are still in process. However, May was really tired and sick after long years of stress and inhumanity as a refugee. She sacrificed her health to be able to care and feed her family. May passed away on March 5th 2020, 10 days after Mohamad and Lina left to Canada. She didn't have enough money to take care of her health but she was happy to see them leave to a safer place. Her kids are devastated for their loss.

May last words to me before entering the hospital were "You are Mohamad and Lina's family now, I trust you, take good care of them until we arrive". She will not have a chance to arrive to Canada, but was given a Visa to a better place, may her soul rest in peace in Paradise. We are now trying to push Youssef's file, their younger brother, as to join his siblings in Canada. He is so lost without his mother and siblings.
