Update #4

Bailey got her tracheotomy done yesterday! And we found out her lungs and pathways are clear! This was very important!
They wished they could see Bailey’s vocal cords but her throat was so swollen from the intubation that they were not able to. Bailey is , unfortunately, in quite a bit of discomfort and was crying ( tears...no sound) throughout the night. But pain is to be expected with the surgery. They are giving her meds to help but must be careful with them as she is little and fragile.
But we were given hope by the surgeons that Bailey can indeed have brain healing. Of course there are no guarantees but for the first time a doctor looked at Ashely and gave her hope.
So your prayers are working!!

Unfortunately we did have some setbacks financially.
It saddens my heart to say this but people that are supposed to be helping Ashely, people that say they care about her , have taken it upon themselves to steal money from Ashely. Money that was gathered at stores in a coin collector, a 40 dollar kitchen set that was to be sold for the yard sale benefit, and some candy bar money that was collected ...it was just a total of $180.00 dollars but ...I mean..how can people do this?

But we are still joyful in Bailey’s success with her surgery and the hopeful voices of her surgeons. It’s so nice to see Bailey’s sweet face without the tubes and tape on her plump little cheeks.

Here is a photo taken by mom yesterday after the surgery. It is not easy seeing her with a tracheotomy but we all know this is a step forward in bringing Bailey home and being able to start therapies.

More Info

While Ashley, a young mom was at work she left her 2 babies with a devoted family member. The family member walked away from the bathtub to grab something from the kitchen all the while listening to the two little ones splashing in the tub..she thought she had time to clean up a spill she saw.

She didn’t.

She came back to see the 1 year old, Bailey under water.

Bailey went without breathing for 25 minutes.

The doctors gave Ashely little hope that her baby would live.

4 days after the drowning Ashely celebrated Bailey’s first birthday in the icu thankful she was alive and breathing on her own.

Since then it has been an ever changing diagnosis. Life support needed, life support not needed, dismal conversations, hopeful conversations, restless agitation to restful sleep for Bailey but the one thing that hasn’t changed is Ashely’s devotion to her baby and the impact that that has on Bailey’s well being.

Unfortunately the world doesn’t stop when these things happen. The mail doesn’t cease to send bills; rent, utilities and the need to eat stays the same.

We got together enough money together from a yard sale and a go fund me - a total of 2,300. for the next few months but this is a long journey. And Ashley is so thankful. It has literally been what she has been living on. And what has been making it capable for her to not have to wait tables while her baby fights for her life. And she is fighting. I didn’t know what that meant until I sat with by her bedside with Ashely and saw how this 1 year old was defying the doctors predictions, reaching for her feeding tube when told she was brain dead, turning her heads to her mamas singing...then having “sympathetic storming “ and having set backs. Only to then defy the doctors again.

But the doctors know Bailey’s fight has just begun.

We need your help.

Ashley needs your help.

But most importantly Bailey need your help. She needs her mama. Please -this is a hard working mother of 2 little ones who is going through ....I cannot even begin to describe this ...it’s beyond my capability to describe and I am but a family friend.

Please

If money you cannot give please give your prayers. Prayers for guidance, for miracles , for Bailey.

Sincerely , Melissa Mann ( close family friend)

Update #3

Bailey’s next set is a tracheotomy so she can be eventually released home but she has had an infection and it has had to be postpones twice now.
We are all crushed and faith is waning,
Please send Ashely a kind word letting her know she is not alone, that people are praying for her and her sweet baby.

Update #2

Ashely with Bailey.
Bailey’s heart rate goes down when Ashely sits with her which is so good for her as Bailey’s heart rate tends to be too high...a sign of agitation-Except when Ashely is sitting with her, touching her, helping her legs and arms move to keep them mobile.
We expect to get the tracheotomy in about a week.
Bailey is still on life support but is breathing on her own..-just needs help.
She is also showing signs of being a little stinker

Update #1

Sitting with Bailey now letting mama get some lunch.
She has a lot of secretions today and had a very agitated night the last few nights but last night she finally slept well!
I can’t help but think she’s looking right at me but, to be honest, we just don’t know. Being so young we just do not know the extent of the brain damage.
