Performing Arts Workshop is a 52-year-old organization with a mission bigger than any one classroom: helping young people develop critical thinking, creative expression, and essential learning skills through the arts. In order to reach students who might not otherwise receive arts education, we prioritize working with students and schools with less access to arts education resources.
Of the students we work with, 53% are English-learners, 70% are people of color, and 82% are considered low-income. We believe arts education can be a tool for personal empowerment and academic success, which can lead to social and economic empowerment.
Standing with students is a mission we’ve been a part of for more than half a century. By making a gift today, you join us in this mission of providing more than 4,000 students with comprehensive, sequential arts education.
In a very tangible way, you also support students like Jenny, who write letters like the one below, describing how much joy and learning can come from a Workshop residency.
Dear Performing Arts Workshop,
Thank you for making Capoeira happen in my life. I have been doing this for 2 years and I love it. Before I didn’t know how to do a cartwheel, but when I started Capoeira, I finally learned! I’m going to miss the music, [teaching artist] Mr.Salê and the moves I haven’t learned. Thank you so much!
We want all students to have access to artmaking, and to the arts instruction of an experienced and dedicated teaching artist. Our teaching artists are leaders in the field who support students in making their very own original compositions.
Please join us in ensuring Jenny and all students continue to learn the moves they haven’t yet learned!
