More Info

My Mother is a native of a small town just outside of Algiers, Algeria.

My Mother likes to tell funny stories like fishing illegally as a kid and selling his catches to the french tourists for money to go see the latest American action movie or sledding down steep windy hills by the Mediterranean Sea. She told me about a game she'd play as a kid with the pits of apricots and how when you'd see the other kids with pockets bulging at the seams, it was because they were the winner of the most pits! She talks about coming to America in '77 to finish his Engineering degree at the University of Texas and meeting my Father in a bar just outside of campus when Her English was not so good. She draws charts and makes notes for the doctors as she lays in the hospital room bed. She calculates math out loud to help her manage her pains because there's only one right answer. She may not be the best mother in world or even the best woman but she is my mother and she is my world.

My Mother was diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer in 2012. She has stayed incredibly positive throughout her battle and even took up wearing a pretty snazzy fedora to cover her head during Chemotherapy.

A few weeks ago, my mother complained of a pain in her back and legs. The doctors insisted the pain was due to the Chemo treatments and sent her on her way. One night, the pains were so strong that she had to call 911 and ask for assistance. She has been in the hospital since and we have found after tests and more MRIs, the cancer has spread to her spinal fluid, bone and kidney. Currently, my mother is finishing up a round of radiation treatment to help ease the pain in her back and give her relief for the short amount of time she has left with us. The doctors have estimated her life expectancy of 3-6 months and she will be going to a local Hospice later this week.

My Mother's immediate family (besides his American one, my father, sister and I) all live in Algeria and she has not seen them in over 10 years due to travel and visa issues. We want to bring at least three of her siblings to Austin, Texas to spend as much time as possible with my mother before she passes away.

Any help is help and we are grateful for our friends and families support.

*PLEASE NOTE: My mother DOES NOT know about this page. I do not want her to know so please keep this a secret!
