This fundraiser is to help keep me in college and also buy my family some time to recover from a financial breakdown as a result of the multiple surgeries my father had to get. All funds raised will go into my tuition.
This past year has been a very challenging one for my family as we daily dreaded loosing our father and husband. It was also that one year every single one of us were obliged to make a sacrifice to keep our father alive after his motor accident. Correcting the complications my father suffered as a result of this accident required three surgeries which cost about $35000 in total.
Funding these surgeries together with medical bills whiles taking care of other bills at home at the same time put a great strain on my family’s finances. To help reduce the family’s financial strain, my two younger sister dropped out of college to work and support the home.
One might be thinking I should take a gap year.
I have considered it but taking a gap year will end up in dropping out of school. I took 7 gap years to support my family after the murder of my mother in 2010. Returning to school at age 25 was after I realized I needed to better myself and get a stable career so I can support my family when my father retires. I am currently a 27 year old sophomore in Calvin University.
Taking that gap year could become 3,4 or even another 7 gap years after which pursuing my dreams of becoming an Occupational Therapist could be impossible.
Presently it is my prayer to be able to raise about $15,000 which will cater for my past due Fall 2019 tuition and upcoming Spring 2020 tuition. This would give myself and my family some time to financially prepare for my bills in my junior year.
Myself and my family would appreciate every gift that comes in no matter how small. Even if it’s a dollar, it gets me closer to remaining in school. Your giving and sharing is greatly appreciated.
