A Certified Service Dog for Emby

A Certified Service Dog for Emby

From Korrine Leiter-Vuur

A service dog for our 4 year old daughter Ember, aka Emby. Fully trained in tracking her in case of elopement, tethering to her in public so that she can't run towards danger, & pressure therapy to assist in meltdowns.

Update #7

As many of you know, Agi passed away suddenly from a stroke, at the tender age of 5.5 months. The post mortem tests showed that it was likely congenital and she was taken quickly and did not suffer.

We have been working with the trainer and many breeders to find a new puppy. We hope to find one soon, however, it will mean a new deposit to hold a spot on a litter, so I will be adding an additional $500 to our goal.

This loss is multi faceted in costs and time, and has been devastating.

Thank you for your continued support, thoughts and prayers.

More Info

Those of you that know our family know that our daughter, Ember (aka Emby), was diagnosed with Autism (type 3, highest level of severity impact) just after her 2nd birthday.

As she has matured the last 2 years we have worked hard with her and her therapists and doctors to help her, however, we are worried for her safety as she is very adept at escaping the home, no matter the safety measures we put in place, it is always a scary thought that one day she may figure out how to get around them.

Also going in public is harder and harder, as she becomes stronger and faster.  We want to allow her the freedom of being in the world at ease and not being worried that her physical agility might take her directly into danger she doesn't understand with her developmental delays.

We want to also provide her comfort and assistance when she is so overwhelmed that human contact is too much to stand, with a faithfully trained companion.

All funds will go directly to the breeder and training company for the actual service dog, if we do go above and beyond our goal, it will be used only for Vet Care or food and toys for the service dog.

Update #5

Miss Agi looking satisfied with another day of excellent tracking done. She started yesterday and took to it immediately, she was able to level up on patterns on her first track out. Only bummer is that it appears our dear little pup gets car sick. Working on some possible remedies in the coming days.
Thank you for all of your support and considering sharing our fundraiser with your community.

Update #4

I posted a video on the main page of our new puppy happily playing at the trainers, with her new buddies..
After viewing this adorable ball of energy and happiness, we decided to go with the name of Agi, which is short for Agile, because Mike loves tech names..
Thanks for following along with us on this journey and all the support you have given us.

Update #3

Exciting news this week!

Today I received notification that we were approved for the Grant from Ben's Fund in Washington. You will notice on our Fundly homepage that I am lowering our previously lowered goal, because of help from the breeder and the trainer, of $10,800 by the entire amount of $1000 approved today. Our new goal is now $9,800! Thank you to all that have supported us financially thus far and or have shared our fundraiser with your community.

The second piece of new this week is that our puppy is making the long journey from Oregon, it's birthplace, to Texas, the location of the trainer on Friday morning. Please join us in keeping her in your thoughts while she makes that long journey on her own, safely and healthy.

Finally, we are looking for advice. We are having trouble picking a name since we never have met this little cutie pie. We are split on Agi or Pixie? What's your vote? Can you think of a cuter name? The trainer promised us video after she arrives there in Texas, so that might help us know her better to choose. I will post that when we get it.

Thank you all again,
Lots of love Korrine

Update #2

I wanted to share with all of you the fantastic weekend we had, in receiving a couple pieces of super awesome news. We have been searching for a very particular breed of puppy so that it is hypoallergenic, a particular size AND has a natural tracking ability, while being sure that the breeder was providing all the necessary genetic testing to be sure this investment, of a service dog, was going to have a happy, healthy long life with us. I have been working with a local breeder, who has kindly educated me thoroughly, even though none of her doodles were small enough for our needs, and she passed on an ad late last week that was everything that fit our bill, AND THE PUPPIES ARE READY TO GO TO A NEW HOME NOW, being already 12 weeks!!! Up until that email, we were looking looking at puppies that were going to be born late winter, still have to be tested for ability and not ready to head off to training until spring. As exciting as that news was, there was still a LOT of communication that needed to occur between the trainer and breeder to see if there was a puppy with the correct drive to track. WELL, we are thrilled to report there was a lovely young lass that perfectly fit our needs of confidence and tracking ability and we are in the midst of adopting her at a very fair price. Therefore, we will be receiving a fully trained dog, late spring or early summer instead of fall-winter 2019. A HUGE BONUS also occurred that she is an older pup, that seems to have had a bit of her training started because of this very thorough and loving breeder who works with many people to provide service dogs, which will reduce our training fees. SO you will see that we have been able to reduce our goal from $13,000 to $10,800. I've also added our new pup's picture, so you can see what you're contributing towards, and will be adding updates as her training continues. Our next update will announce her name! Feel free to drop your suggestions here or on Facebook should you have an idea. :o)
