Leominster State Forest has been groomed this evening. All post holes are wiped clean. Should be sweet tomorrow, provided you have studs.

More Info

We hope you have enjoyed the groomed trails.

Can you see you or your comments in these photos/videos? https://photos.app.goo.gl/Jtva3HoQhid1nJQL6

We suspect your ability to enjoy them is impacted by snow conditions, our ability to groom, and your ability and desire to get to where we groom vs. your other groomed and non-groomed options.

We also appreciate your potential previous support of the Snowdog's original purchase and the procurement of the trailer.

I was personally naïve in thinking the annual operations cost would be limited to gas and the trailer's insurance and annual registration.  Which we (Tom O. and I) are ok with absorbing.

However, the cost in parts replacement is considerable, hence the humble need to at least make you aware of the costs and the option for you to contribute if you see the value. Otherwise don't (I have modified the recipients of the fundraising list to those I have observed to have participated in riding the groomed trails).

In the spirit of transparency and empathy you may not want to contribute. I get it. Respect it. Specifically:

1) You expected trails to be groomed closer to home, i.e., Groton. No excuse on my end, other than more snow in Leominster, and MIT Haystack being demolished by logging; providing a natural incentive for Tom O. to groom LSF where there is more snow, groomable single track, and more acreage and less accessible to foot traffic.

2) We make the choice to groom because we love to ride it. No excuses, true.

3) You already contributed towards the initial purchase and the subsequent trailer purchase.

These three points make me empathetic to you saying "Enough already". But in return we hope you can be empathetic for why we are asking for your contribution: the Snowdog breaks down when are we grooming the fun stuff, single track. I have personally rolled it, broken trailer lights, leaked oil, and ruined the brake.

Tom O. takes the damaged unit and dedicates countless hours, mechanical skill, and his personal funds to upkeep the unit.

He also complements my modest grooming efforts in Groton with continuous grooming of LSF, enabling us to have crazy good conditions for several weekends.

We have learned the importance of proactive maintenance of the chain, brakes, engine, and other stuff I don't understand.  Additionally, there are several modifications (see this link if you are geeky enough to want to know the details) to the Snowdog that will enable us to have more trails to be groomed in a more timely manner. We are lucky to have Tom O. do this mechanical work.

The challenge is:

a) Being super audit worthy and showing you advanced receipts for the materials purchased thus far, and near future Snowdog modifications/enhancement costs (3 - 8 weeks from now?)

- versus -

b) "striking while the iron is hot" and asking for your contributions while we are all favorably buzzed from the unreal conditions and there is snow on the ground.

We are going with 'b' :)

I will leave it in your individual hands as to what amount $ you think is best, taking into account the size of your grin as compared to your grin-to-$ cost ratio at downhill ski resort, XC ski venue, or a bar:)

Thanks for reading and potentially helping out.

(Thx Tim, Jason, and Greg for the unsolicited donations thus far.)
