In 2010 I went to Honduras to work for a non-profit called BECA – Bilingual Education for Central America, an organization that provides high-quality, affordable bilingual education to impoverished children in Honduras.
I spent a little over a year living and working in a small, undeveloped city called Cofradia where I was fortunate enough to work side by side with the Honduran community to educate some of the most brilliant and compassionate children I have ever met at San Jeronimo Bilingual School.
During my time there, I became a part of my student’s families and learned a lot about the complexities of living and working in a developing country. I realized what a difference BECA had made in their lives and witnessed first-hand how a bilingual education can open so many doors for kids and their families in Honduras.
I'm running a marathon (for the first time ever) to support BECA because they are one of the most responsible, educational non-profits out there and I want to bring awareness to the amazing work they are doing.
I have decided to raise $2,620 – $100 for each mile – to contribute towards BECA’s programmatic costs which includes schools supplies, books, teacher training and support for the 450 students they serve today.
ANY DONATION whether big or small will make a huge difference for the teachers currently operating in Honduras – I can personally attest to that! All donations are tax-deductible and you will be making a valuable investment in the lives of our students and their community.
