This summer our parish will be returning to the Dominican Republic in our 8th year of Mission. The mission will take place in the town of San Jose de Los Llanos, San Pedro de Macoris, D.R. from June 25th to July 2nd.
The purpose of the mission is to do the social work of the church which includes the Social & spiritual work during our home visits, providing assistance to the family in need, prescreening patients for the 2 days medical clinic, and providing medical services to those that present some challenges to attend the clinic.
The mission will include a 2-day Medical Clinic, which will consist of providing general medical services, cardiology, gynecology, pediatrics, optometry, dermatology, and dentistry. Typically, 400 - 500 + people would be seen each day. We will be accompanied by some physicians from our parish, and some doctors from The Dominican Republic will be assisting us as well.
We will work with a local pharmacist & doctors to coordinate the purchase of all medicines that we need to purchase in D.R. We will have a pharmacist working with us through our staying in D.R. We will be about 40 - 45 in number. Most of the people that participating in our mission are not doctors but each one plays a very important role such as helping to set up the clinic, assisting doctors in translation from Spanish to English, crowd control, and helping in the home visits to spread the words about our mission and the medical clinic. This is a very humbling, life-changing experience.
Each person attending the mission is paying for their own travel expenses, but other supports are needed for things like medical supplies, medicine, and medical expenses while we’re there and to cover the cost of shipping all the donations of medicines and supplies to the Dominican Republic to take care of about 1,500 during the medical clinic. This being said; we need to fundraise $35,000.00 to cover the cost
