2013 Wiregrass Area Buddy Walk
F.R.I.E.N.D.S. (Families Reaching, Influencing, Educating & Networking for Down Syndrome) is a local organization for families, friends and advocates who love an individual with Down Syndrome. F.R.I.E.N.D.S. strives to provide support for families with individuals with Down syndrome, connect with other families, friends and advocates, and educate ourselves and our community about Down syndrome.
Mission - Our mission is to provide resources for support and education for families, friends and care-givers of individuals with Down syndrome. We hope to help people with Down syndrome improve their quality of life through advocacy, education and promoting a positive understanding of Down syndrome in the Wiregrass area.
Vision - The VISION of FRIENDS is to recognize the value of people with Down syndrome within their families, communities and workplace and to educate families and communities about Down syndrome.
Why - The goal of Buddy Walk is to celebrate October as National Down Syndrome Awareness month, and promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome. In 2012, with generous sponsors and giving team members the walk raised funds to support local individuals and their families through the F.R.I.E.N.D.S.
What - The Buddy Walk is a multi-city advocacy walk in which people with Down syndrome invite friends and family to walk with them. The individual with Down syndrome is the actual Buddy and his/her team can be anyone from family and friends to teachers or classmates and coworkers to politicians. The Buddy Walk will include entertainment, food and fun for the whole family.
