About Us

For several years, CrossFit HQ has hosted the Fight Gone Bad WOD Fundraiser in the end of September, benefiting different charities from Prostate Cancer to the Wounded Warrior Project to a variety of kid programs.  This event has always been a highlight in the CrossFit community, so we were sad to hear that Headquarters would no longer be leading a FGB WOD Fundraiser.  Then we thought - why not just run an independent fundraiser ourselves?  So, without missing a beat, on Saturday, November 2nd we are excited to be hosting our 2nd annual FGB to raise funds to support for Boost! West Oakland.

Here is what you need to know

The Charity - Boost! West Oakland

Boost! West Oakland (formerly known as Lafayette School Mentoring Project) is a no-cost tutoring and mentoring program for K-5 students enrolled at Lafayette Elementary School in West Oakland. Since its inception in 1997, the program has served more than 1800 students. Diverse, experienced tutors, who are carefully selected and matched to students' needs, provide weekly one-on-one tutoring in reading and math. Boost’s innovative approach is consistent, well-organized, and offers students continuous one-on-one support over a long period of time.At Boost!, the students want to be in the program. They look forward to their sessions once a week, throughout the school year, and many students participate for five or six consecutive years and for more time each week. For many of the children this is the only time that they have such a high level of dedicated, positive attention from an adult, and the effect can be life-changing.The mission of Boost! is to empower West Oakland youth with the skills and confidence needed to become positive contributors to society. Boost! West Oakland fosters healthy attitudes toward learning and strengthens students’ academic performance and self-esteem through individualized One-on-One Tutoring and Mentoring, Fieldtrips, and Family Events. For more information on Boost! West Oakland, click here.
