Update #1

Hey everyone! So just an explaination as to why I'm doing this. As you may or may not know, I am turning 16 on April 16th. For the last few weeks, I had been thinking really hard about what I want for my birthday and, after much thought, I realized something crazy. I didn't want anything. I have a nice phone, a new bicycle, a school laptop, a desktop at home, TV at my disposal, all the books in the world, wonderful friends, food, a roof over my head and so much more. I have been so blessed to have, quite literally, everything I could want or need. So I started thinking about what else I could do. And after a while, I decided on this. For the next 16 days, up until (and technically a bit past this, because I started just under a day late...) my birthday on April 16th, I want to try and raise $1,600 for the charity "Doctors without Borders". This is my chance to give back to God's children in my own little way. It's not much in the grand scheme of things. There are so many problems in this world, but this is something I'd like to do. and I really really REALLY hope you guys can help me give back to the world that has nurtured me and helped me grow physically, mentally and spiritually in the last 16 years of my life. So yeah! Thanks again for helping me out! I hope that you can all help me have an amazing 16th Birthday!!!!!

God bless,
Daniel

Backstory time!

So here's how this all came to be. As you may or may not know, my 16th birthday is coming up on April 16th. Yet, I was having a problem. For the last few weeks, I've been thinking about what I wanted for my birthday. So I sat there brainstorming for basically the entire month of March before I finally came to a crazy realization. I didn't want anything. I have a nice phone, a new bicycle, a school laptop, TV at my disposal, food in the fridge, clean clothes, fashionable clothes (or at least, I personally like them. Keep your opinions to yourself), my own room AND bathroom, space to play outside, space to relax inside, wonderful friends, amazing and supportive family members, a beautiful church home with so many amazing people, a roof over my head, a bright future and so much more. What else could I want? I'm perfectly content with my life.

So I decided after much thought and prayer that I want to give back to those less fortunate than I (Popular from Wicked reference there for ya) and return some of the many, many blessings God has given me. So I looked up charities that I'd like to donate to and found "Doctors without Borders", a charity that provides Medical support to those in need all over the world.

Here's an excert from their website (linked below)

Every year, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) provides emergency medical care to millions of people caught in crises in some 70 countries around the world. MSF provides assistance when catastrophic events—such as armed conflict, epidemics, malnutrition, or natural disasters—overwhelm local health systems. MSF also assists people who face discrimination or neglect from their local health systems or when populations are otherwise excluded from health care.

MSF is a neutral and impartial humanitarian organization that aims first and foremost to provide high-quality medical care to the people who need it the most. It does not promote the agenda of any country, political party, or religious faith, and, as such, endeavors to communicate its history, background, and capabilities to all parties in a given situation so that it may gain the necessary access to populations in need.

On any given day, more than 30,000 doctors, nurses, logisticians, water-and-sanitation experts, administrators, and other qualified professionals working with MSF can be found providing medical care around the world.

In 2012, MSF medical teams carried out more than 8.3 million outpatient consultations; delivered more than 185,000 babies; treated more than 1.6 million people for malaria; treated nearly 350,000 severely and moderately malnourished children; provided some 284,000 people living with HIV/AIDS with antiretroviral therapy; conducted more than 78,000 surgeries, and vaccinated 690,000 against measles and 496,000 against meningitis.

If you want to learn more, please feel free to visit their website HERE

For me, this is an opportunity to give back to ALL of God's children worldwide. I really hope you'll consider donating. Again, I want to raise $1,600! I'm not entirely sure we can do it, but I really hope we can. I think that's all I really want this year for my birthday. Lets try and make it happen!

Thank you again for all of your love and support.

God bless, Daniel Solomon Holland
