More than 36 million Americans, one-third of them children under the age of 12 -- suffer from "limited or uncertain" access to food. 4.5 million Americans will need a blood transfusion each year,one pint of blood can save up to three lives. More then one billion people in the world lack access to clean water, and things are getting worse. Over the next two decades, the average supply of water per person will drop by a third, possibly condemning millions of people to an avoidable premature death. The organizations benefiting from this event are working to make sure hunger, lack of water, and access to blood, are no longer an issue for those in need.
