Throughout my life I know for a fact that would not have been afforded many of the opportunities I've had without the help from others. I'm sure you feel the same - we all have had someone help us along our way. PLEASE help me in doing the same for these High School Youth.
Let me first say that I don't know these kids personally. I just learned about their need within the past week. The short story is these bright Arsenal Tech HS students qualified for a HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) National Conference by winning their state HOSA competition! However, due to sponsorship falling through, they are now in jeopardy of not being able to attend. 73.5% of the students at Arsenal Tech HS receive free lunch and 7.8% are on the reduced lunch program.
The HOSA program is a 4-year program. The students learn medical skills (including, but limited to, performs CPR, EMT-B, performing simple lab tests, urinalysis, electrocardiograph, drawing blood, measuring vital signs, assisting with minor surgery skills, etc). During the senior year the students have an opportunity to have a clinical experience at a hospital, clinic, physician’s office, pharmacy, dental or veterinary office. This program is exceptional and gives them a distinct advantage as they prepare for a career in health occupations.
The program includes participation in State and National Competition . There are 8 students who won at the state level and are entitled now to move on to nationals (Nashville TN). In addition to competing, the students have the opportunity to attend symposiums, and network with professionals, who may be future mentors.
My goal is BIG - but definitely achievable with your help. I want to raise $1,400 and I have one week to do so. This money will pay for the travel and hotel fees for the students. Please make a donation - and share this with your friends so they can as well - TOGETHER we can make a difference!!
