About Me

I have been able to see first hand how powerful  Teach For America teachers can be in classrooms across Nashville. I know this money will help children in Nashville receive the education they deserve. Without it, they will simply fall into Nashville's all to familar "cycle of poverty".

Pushing ourselves; Pushing our community

Running an actual half or whole marathon – like eliminating the achievement gap - is extremely challenging, but highly rewarding.  By bringing together members of the Nashville community around this common goal (training together, pushing each other, and fundraising together), the Teach For America corps members, alumni, staff and friends who make up the Teach For America Running Team will cultivate team spirit, pride, and passion around improving an education system in Nashville that currently yields less than ¼ students proficient in math and less than half proficient in reading, and around their ability to affect greater change as one team than they could as individuals.  Because this team encompasses many participants at a variety of levels (runners, volunteers, supporters), it creates threads of community where none currently exist and strengthens existing bonds around ensuring all children in Nashville receive the educational opportunities they deserve.

Show your support -- Sponsor one runner for one mile!

Through running the Country Music Marathon, we hope to raise awareness of the educational inequities that persist in Nashville and unite the community and our friends and families around eliminating these inequities.  We ask you to please consider sponsoring one runner for one mile at $20 per mile (for whole marathon runners) and $40 per mile (for half-marathon runners).  Your contribution will go towards helping Teach For America recruit, train, and support highly-effective teachers for Greater Nashville public schools serving students growing up in poverty – and your commitment to our students will unite you with a community of dedicated individuals who are determined to ensure that all students, regardless of their family’s income and where they grow up, are able to fulfill their potential.

Want to get more involved?

Please reach out to Miriam Todras, a Teach For America 2010 corps member and Chemistry teacher at Glencliff High School, if you have any questions about how you can get more involved with the Teach For America Running Team (including how you can join the team yourself – all are welcome!).  Reach her at mpt5g@virginia.edu.
