Watching the news and media of the devastation that has occurred in the east coast because of hurricane Sandy; I was forced to reflect on my own life and situation. Disasters like these make you realize all the different blessings, people, and things you may be taking for granted; there are currently families in the hurricane hit areas that are without these things. Families have no roof over their head, have lost loved ones, and are without the most basic needs like water and electricity. I feel compelled to show my gratitude for my own blessings by giving back and helping these families during this time when they need assistance most.

I will be working with the Samaritan’s Purse organization in the Nassau County, New York area providing disaster relief to low-lying, low income areas at the end of this month.  Samaritan’s Purse is a non-profit organization who’s emergency relief programs provide desperately needed assistance to victims of natural disaster, war, disease, and famine. As they offer food, water, and temporary shelter, they meet critical needs and give people a chance to rebuild their lives.

The majority of expenses are covered by Samaritan's Purse, however travel and supplies expenses are not. I started this cause so that other people who are wanting a way to give back and are not able to travel to the east coast to help, can do so by helping provide funding to cover these expenses.
