About Me

I LIFT because I want to change society. I want to help people that want to help themselves. I don't want to go into the criminal justice field with a lack of knowledge of how poverty can affect others. I want to take a stand and make a change for the better. When I work with a client and they tell me how much I have helped them, that gives me the strength to continue to do great things for others. You have to pay it forward

About the Why I LIFT Campaign

Why I LIFT is an annual campaign that allows LIFT volunteers nationwide to share their stories of why they LIFT and to share LIFT's mission with their family, friends and colleagues. Why I LIFT combines the power of storytelling with fund raising efforts to help support LIFT volunteers' dedicated work. The WHY I LIFT campaign is designed to turn the megaphone over to volunteers, and let volunteers tell their stories unscripted and unedited.  Through the powerful act of storytelling, volunteers spread awareness about the realities of poverty, build a movement to combat poverty, and gain financial support which allows LIFT to serve more client families every year.

What is LIFT?

LIFT is a growing movement to combat poverty and expand opportunity for all people in the United States. Our volunteers (called Student Advocates) work one-on-one with Philadelphia residents to find jobs, secure safe and stable housing, apply for public benefits that make ends meet, and obtain quality referrals for services like childcare and healthcare. Our mission is to combat poverty by calling upon students and young adults to engage in direct community service and take leadership in the effort to connect all people in the United States to the solutions they need to achieve financial security.
