Update #4

Breast cancer is a global problem, with one woman dying from the disease every 50 seconds. In 2020, an estimated 684,996 women died from breast cancer, with a disproportionate number of these deaths occurring in low-resource settings such as Nigeria.

Since 2017, CancerAware Nigeria has designated October - being the global Breast Cancer Awareness Month to raise funds for low-income and indigent women facing a breast cancer diagnosis in Nigeria. Our #31DaysOfPINK Breast Cancer Campaign helps women who cannot afford the cost of their treatment.

The funds raised from the campaign go towards chemotherapy, surgery, medications, diagnostic tests and welfare support for beneficiaries.

IMPACT OF THE 2022 CAMPAIGN

From October 2022 to September 2023, we were able to provide support to a total of 115 beneficiaries. Below is the breakdown:

Chemotherapy Sessions Provided - 172

Breast Screening and Diagnostic Tests - 94

Surgical Procedures and Hospital Care - 4

Pharmaceutical and Medical Aid - 28

Patient Welfare and Support - 27

Thank you for being there for our beneficiaries as they face one of the most challenging situations anyone can go through - a cancer diagnosis.

We have now embarked on the 7th edition of the #31DaysOfPINK Breast Cancer Campaign and we are hoping to support even more beneficiaries than last year.

We hope you will join us again as we fundraise to help more women facing breast cancer. We encourage you to consider making a donation and make a difference in the life of a woman facing breast cancer.

More Info

Caroline is a widow with 4 children. She lives in Lagos, Nigeria. Sometime in 2013, she felt a lump under her armpit. She went to a nearby local health centre and was told that it was just fat and nothing to worry about.

Fast forward to 2015, Caroline was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer. A large percentage of the population in Nigeria live on less than $1 a day.

A cancer diagnosis amounts to a death sentence as patients cannot afford the high cost of treatment and they have no health insurance. In Nigeria, breast cancer is the most common cancer accounting for about 40 deaths a day.

Caroline is just one of the women diagnosed with breast cancer that CancerAware Nigeria, a Lagos based charity is making a difference in their lives. In addition to providing psychosocial support, they also cover the cost of their cancer treatments, feeding and other expenses.

The charity also offers free breast cancer screening in low income and underserved communities of Nigeria. Their goal is to reduce the cancer incidence in Nigeria through prevention, early detection and support.

Your donation will help them move closer to achieving this. Thank you for helping out. To learn more about their life-saving work, visit their website www.canceraware.org.ng
