I have updated our page to reflect On-Grounds fundraisers!  We have a lot planned for the rest of the semester!  Keep helping Habitat reach our goal!  Remember!  If we reach $10,000, State Farm will donate a matching $10,000!  Let's do it!  That's $20,000!!!

Thank you everyone for helping us raise $10,000 and thank you to State Farm for matching our fundraising efforts.  Together we have rasied $20,000!!! to help sponsor a home in the Charlottesville community.

We are so close to our goal.  Once we raise $10,000 with our Charlottesville affiliate, State Farm will match with another $10,000.  That's $20,000 for our co-sponsorship right here in Charlottesville.  The other $1,000 goes to our yearly tithe to benefit the mission of Habitat internationally.  $21,000 in one year?  We can do it!!!

About Habitat for Humanity at UVA

According to the Albemarle County Housing Committee, more than 3,000 homes in greater Charlottesville qualify as “substandard” - half of which are owned or occupied by low-income families that cannot afford necessary repairs.  Habitat for Humanity at the University of Virginia is a service organization dedicated to ending local and global substandard housing.  We work very closely with our local affiliate, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Charlottesville, to improve the housing situation of local residents.  Our efforts, as a university organization, are concentrated in three areas: building, advocacy, and fundraising.  Our work is unique in that it fosters an often-neglected interaction between UVA students and the local community.  In February 2011, Charlottesville Habitat began work at Sunrise Trailer Park, a project that will contain 60 homes when finished.  Habitat at UVA has taken on the gauntlet of sponsoring a house at Sunrise.  Unlike many other service organizations at the University, Habitat at UVA is an organization committed to long-term, passionate service.  Building a house does not happen overnight, and volunteers are there throughout the process to see it through.  Through hands-on service and weekly builds, volunteers truly get to experience the long-term service opportunity that Habitat provides.  Habitat for Humanity at the University of Virginia has allowed hundreds of students over the years to interact with the surrounding community and ultimately impact the community in a positive, long-lasting way.
