The Rockaway Peninsula, an 11-mile strip of two-family homes and public housing projects facing the Atlantic, was among the New York communities hit hardest by the storm on Monday night. During the height of the storm, as much as 4 feet of flood water invaded from the bay and the ocean, swamping basements, homes and cars leaving people with houses in ruins, stranded and without power.

While the residents of Rockaway, most still without power, try to rebuild their lives and as hundreds of volunteers flock to help, the same sentiment is being echoed all over - they would REALLY, REALLY love a hot meal in their stomach. We'll be heading out with a small army of grills and [hopefully] a mountain of meat & sides to feed them. It may not sound like much but for a lot it makes a world of difference.

Any left over money will be used to purchase supplies which will be handed out directly to the residents of Rockaway - water, food, toiletries, diapers, flashlights, batteries, heat sheets, etc.
