About Me
Helping Take DMF to the Next Level
Hello friends,
There are some causes that you can just get behind. It’s a no brainer. For me that happened after attending my first Daniel’s Music Foundation concert a couple years ago. Seeing the members perform and just light up the stage not only spoke to the entertainer in me, but the human being reminded that awesomeness comes in all shapes and sizes.
The Foundation is ready to take it to the next level by getting its own space here in New York City. By doing so, it will be able to drastically improve its reach and help touch so many more lives for the better. That is something I'd love to have a hand in.
I am campaigning to be able to donate a room in this new facility. And the kicker is I will get to name it. And I will name it the "Larry Room." So I am asking that you all give what you can to help an amazing cause (with the added bonus to help have one of my favorite jokes of all time live forever). Trust me y’all, have I steered any of you wrong yet?
I appreciate each and every donation, but realize that it is nice to get something in return (besides all the times I made you laugh…remember those? Good times.). So I’ve tiered out some rewards that I think are fun as a token of appreciation for your contribution.
Thanks so much, as always, for the love and support. You rock.
Who is Daniel?
Today, at age 27, Daniel Trush is the life force that drives Daniel's Music Foundation. His happiness and zest for life is incomparable and his dynamic, positive, and friendly personality is contagious.
Daniel's recovery was so greatly enhanced by learning to play the keyboard that he and his family were compelled to found Daniel's Music Foundation.
When he was 12 years old, while playing basketball, a brain aneurysm burst in his head. He was trapped in a coma for 30 days, and spent the next 341 days hospitalized. The next 2 years he was in a wheelchair and today he walks on his own.
Programs
Our core program is our On-Site Program - our instruction classes that take place at 220 East 86th St., for our members who are able to travel easily. Our On-Site Program is the essence of our programs and its success has enabled us to expand and develop our Outreach and Off-Site Programs.
The highlight of our Outreach Program is our two Music Celebrations. These are performances that take place after the spring and fall semesters, and enable our members to share their musical and personal achievements. The performances take place at The Dalton School in NYC and are something that should not be missed. Please see our media gallery for performances from past celebrations or feel free to join us at our next one. Beyond the Music Celebrations we also offer customized outreach programs that include performances at schools, corporations, baseball games, rehabilitation centers and nursing homes. Here our members get the opportunity perform in front of an audience, build their confidence and share their remarkable level of musical accomplishment
Off-Site Programs are exactly that off-site - instruction classes for members where travel may prove to be difficult. This is where we take the DMF experience and bring our classes to hospitals, group homes, rehabilitation facilities and nursing homes. Not simply an instructor, the entire experience - members, volunteers, equipment and more, thus enabling us to share the benefits of our program with those members who are unable come to us. Beyond that, it provides our on-site members who travel with us the opportunity to perform in front of others, build confidence and share their love of music with others.
About
For centuries, the beauty, power and personal relevance of music has made it a wonderful instrument for the rehabilitation of individuals with disabilities.
By definition, Daniel's Music Foundation is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization that provides free musical instruction to all individuals with disabilities in the NYC area. But they are much more than just a foundation they are a community that opens doors to acceptance, respect, confidence and overall well being.
The relationship we build with our members over time goes well beyond simply music. Through our On-Site, Off-Site and Outreach Programs, they create the opportunity for our members to put the skills they learn into practice, in a real life setting. Magic really happens when our members serve others.
