About Me

Code for America is helping shape up the government IT world, where waste of taxpayer funds on bloated contracts is widespread. Lightweight open solutions for government IT are part of the mission of Adriel Nation - technologies for democracy. Join me in supporting CfA with a small donation today.

(Code for America is a 501(c)3 nonprofit. All contributions are tax deductible.)

Technology is a huge part of our lives - and it can also be a force for good. Through the Code for America fellowship program, passionate technologists partner with governments to leverage the power of the Internet to do more with less, and in doing so, they become modern civic leaders.

This year, our 19 fellows built applications and innovations in 3 cities (Boston, Philadelphia and Seattle). They developed 19 new applications, 60 new tools for government APIs, opened up 15 data sets, and created 8 new ones. In 2012, we will have 26 fellows working in 8 cities. Our fellows join us as talented technologists and designers, and they leave us equipped with unique knowledge, contacts and experiences to launch civic-minded careers. More importantly, they and our partners in government are building a long-term movement to put City Hall back on the technology curve and make municipal government agile, responsive, engaged, and efficient. They are building a government that truly serves its citizens.

But we also realize that the fellowship is just one tool to realize the transformational change we’re seeking to enact; it’s how we can move the needle from inside City Hall. In 2012, we will also be working from the outside as well, tapping into the energy in local community groups and leveraging the disruptive potential of entrepreneurs. This holiday season, what difference can technology make?

Code for America's fellowship program recruits the brightest minds in the tech sector to help city governments work better for all of us. This year CfA fellows built applications that made the transit system easier to use in Philadelphia, school buses easier to find for Boston’s children, and healthy food options more accessible for food stamp recipients all over the country. Learn more about our fellows’ critical work in these short videos from our Code for America Summit.
