The Story
When I was ten I was diagnosed with a type of bone cancer called Ewing Sarcoma. My two year experience battling cancer was not just an obstacle but it also changed my whole outlook on life. As a survivor, my experience made me want to dedicate a portion of my life giving back to the people and institutions that save childrens lives everyday and encourage others to join me. Throughout my school career I have been fundraising through bracelet sales, participating in walkathons, and encouraging fellow students to join me. If anyone was reluctant to join my cause, I encouraged them to raise awareness for something that is important to them. I was extremely surprised to see how many of my friends started participating in different charities and non-profit organizations. This is just a small step towards my future endeavors. I am an aspring philanthropist.
Our Goal
There is nothing more important that I learned than the significance of continuous support whether its from family, friends, doctors or nurses. The Pediatric Cancer Foundation is a non-profit charity which raises money for research, state of the art equipment/instruments and parent/patient care for world-renowned doctors at the hospitals PCF supports. Every year I participate in the Pediatric Cancer Walkathon with a team that raises money for this amazing cause. This year I started my own team and my goal is to spread awareness and encourage as many people as possible to get involved in supporting and/ or donating for this great cause. This year our team is bigger and better and presumably our goal is substantially higher. I cannot express my gratitude enough for the continuous support every year. Every single donation counts !
The Event
The great thing about the Pediatric Cancer Walkathon is that everybody is invited to participate. This year my team is named "Checkmate, Cancer!" and we want to get as many people to walk with us as we can get. Its a fun event which includes concerts, free food, lots of free goodies, and a healthy excersice as we walk down the Riverside Park in NYC.
