Our Uncle Andriy Vasylenko along with his wife Arenda and their four children live on the outskirts of Kyiv, Ukraine. Andriy works in the bakery industry while his wife Arenda runs a nonprofit organization aimed at improving the lives of people with Down syndrome, and challenging the stereotypes within Ukrainian society. The nonprofit was started when God blessed them with a down syndrome child.

As you know, Ukraine is currently under the heavy bombardment of Russian bombs and missiles. Russian forces are surrounding the city of Kyiv, and there is now a minimal movement of supplies to the city. Yesterday Andriy went into the grocery store where all the bread shelves were empty and essential goods gone. He realized that they could help in this bleak situation. He looked in his bakery's storage and saw that they have all the necessary raw ingredients, but no bakers. Today he called a few friends to come and try making simple breads to give out to the residents in town. They have plenty of flour and oil for now, but will be in need of your support both now and in the future when supplies run low. If you would like to help in any way, we would be very grateful for your support in providing essential breads to the people, and supporting our nonprofit for the mentally disabled children of Ukraine in this most tragic time.

The funds will be used to cover direct expenses and equipment used for this project. While the food is becoming more scares Andriy is now realizing how big and dire the need is. Each day more and more groups, hospitals and other agencies are asking for help with food. Currently they are looking for more volunteers to come bake bread 24/7 with a couple of different shifts and multiple location.

Please share this need with any friends and family who may be interested in helping. I will post updates as I am able. May God bless you and protect Ukraine!

Update #65

Christmas on the Front Lines https://youtu.be/JndsX77u76I

There are many stories about brave soldiers in Ukraine, but I would like to place photo of brave women here.
I took this photo in Kramatorsk in the church, where thousands of refugees found shelter, food and encouragement. During our breakfast we had chance to listen to small part of stories of mothers with babies, who lost mind after seen their husbands killed, about man who was saved after mine explosion and then died after 10 minutes in hospital, about people who got illnesses in cold and humid basements, about children crying to mother for food, while she didn't realize these are her kids... ... and many many more stories full of grief and pain.
They saw it all, helped with whatever was possible, cried with those people and prayed for them. You should have very big heart to bear this all and keep you own mind. When we asked how could you manage this all, their answer was: "only God could give us power".
My deepest respect to these beautiful people. May God keep them and bless their families for generations ahead.
-Andriy
