About Me

**Update 2.17.13** - Over the weekend - Richard met with little Eden who is now the proud owner of her very own pink Robohand! Please visit our blog to read more about her and check out the video of her picking up a ball for the first time in her life with her brand new fingers! Thank you to everyone that continues to fund our project and thank you to everyone that is sharing our story and our pages - every little bit helps and getting the information out there for the World to see so that more people can find us is exactly what we hope for! Follow our blog at www.comingupshorthanded.com - Thank you!

**update 1/25/13** Liam now has his fully functional Robohand! Plese check out the video and photo on this page. Now he's off and running with it, learning to use it in his day to day life. Thank you to all of our supporters. Thank you to Yolandi and Rory for taking a chance and letting two crazy guys try out an idea with Liam. Thank you to Makerbot for providing the machines that made it possible to make inexpensive, light-weight components for Liam's device. We are all very grateful that this has worked out!

**update as of 1/22/13**We would like to express our deep gratitude to our most recent donor, Abby Norton. Your incridble contribution will be put to good use as it will allow us to obtain some much needed items to further our efforts. Thank you, so very much, for your kindess and support!

**update as of 1/17/13**Richard and Ivan now have two 3D printers and are using them to send each other prototypes across the globe. The printer being used is the Replicator 2 by Makerbot. Makerbot was kind enough to provide both printers to our project for free!!! THANK YOU MAKERBOT! Very soon, Liam will be the first recipiant of the duo's now production-ready full finger replacement design. The cost to Liam and his family... $0. Thank you to all of our donors who have made this possible!

Richard had a tragic woodworking accident where he lost two full fingers and most of his other two fingers on his right hand. He is right handed.

When he came out of hospital he searched high and low for a prosthetic finger. All he could find was the X-Finger at a cost of $10,000, which is way out of reach. Richard was determined to find a solution to his dilemma of becoming an instant lefty!

He started designing his own prototype finger but was struggling a bit with certain mechanics. He searched the web and found a guy in the USA who had made a mechanical hand for fun.

Richard and Ivan have been working together for a year now, and many things have been accomplished. As of late December, Richard put the finishing touches on a finely tuned prosthetic finger and has started testing it out to see all that it can do.

Many things lie ahead. Now Rich and Ivan are exploring how best to reach out and share their findings with others in need of the technology. Your donations can help them to get this technology and information into the hands of those who need it.
